Can you brang the funk? If not, fret not; you will after this guitar video course! In this funk guitar lesson collection, instructors John Heussenstamm, Dean Brown, Dave Hill, and Carl Verheyen break down the integral elements that make this style what it is. You'll learn all about chord voicings and inversions, pick-hand technique, fret-hand muting and technique, single-note palm-muted and "skank lines," and much more. By the time you're done, you'll be ready to sit in on a funk jam and lay it down like a pro. These videos are designed for intermediate players.
John Heussenstam begins with a series of six lessons that cover various elements of funk guitar, such as the skank line (employing fret-hand muting so that only one note speaks out, allowing you to strum through all strings and get a fatter sound for the one note), ninth chords, seventh chord inversions, 6th intervals, pentatonic chords (chord fragments formed with the notes from the pentatonic scale), and more. Then you'll learn how to create some nice movement and momentum in your rhythm parts, as Dave Hill shows how to make use of three-note voicings (triads) in various rhythms and grooves.
Next, Dean Brown takes over with a 16th-note rhythmic workout, in which you'll be introduced to just about any and all rhythmic syncopations you're likely to encounter. He continues with another lesson demonstrating how to build lean, active parts that fit nicely into most ensembles by combining single notes and double stops. The course wraps up with a lesson from Carl Verheyen on the importance of listening to the band to find a niche to fill - a critical concept that's far too often ignored.
Funk guitar is one of the most enjoyable styles to play on guitar, and with this video guitar course, you'll be skankin' away in no time. It's time to get down!
