Using the right drums on your project can make a huge difference. Often I've seen lots of Hip Hop producers use just any type of drum hit or loop and then throw a sample on it, thinking they have a winning formula. The fact is that doing it that way is exactly what you shouldn't do.
With Rap music, I've always believed that the drums are what makes or breaks a track. Let's face it - Rap music is based heavily around the drum track, so why should you cut corners and use the first drum sounds you find? It all starts with finding the right drums.
Illmind Blap Kit Volume 2
This collection of drums is composed of over 150 drum sounds in WAV format, and all of the drums were sampled into the Ensoniq ASR-10, as well as the Akai S-20 at 33khz/12-bit. This gives all the drums lots of warmth and punch, plus they didn't add any reverb, delay, or anything else like that, which could easily muddy up your track. Illmind has left all of the sounds as is without compression, and all of the drums were picked by Illmind himself from his personal collection of drum sounds.
