BRIAN ENO and BEATIE WOLFE are gearing up for the release of their third collaboration of 2025, so it's fantastic to have them on the cover of the latest Electronic Sound. We're bundling the magazine with a lush purple vinyl ENO & WOLFE seven-inch too, one side of which features a track previously only available in Japan.
Brian Eno's partnership with composer and conceptual artist Beatie Wolfe, who Vice called "a musical weirdo and visionary", has already given us two albums this year. Another is coming out next month. All three records – 'Luminal', 'Lateral' and the forthcoming 'Liminal' – blend dreamy, mesmeric and opulent ambient atmospherics with snatches of hushed Americana. The results are alluring and fascinating, as is our interview with the pair, which sees them talking about everything from the joys of hauling abandoned speakers out of skips to the very idea of creativity itself. Exploring the zone where music, art, science and technology come together, it's a perfect cover story for Electronic Sound.
Digging deeper into the magazine, our other interviews include Columbian experimentalist LUCRECIA DALT, whose new album has been co-produced by David Sylvian, and UK trio THE UTOPIA STRONG, whose line-up includes snooker superstar and modular wizard Steve Davis. We also have San Francisco street legend THE SPACE LADY, krautrock icon MICHAEL ROTHER and renowned drummer BUDGIE, best known for his many years with Siouxsie And The Banshees. Plus SECTION 25, WEVIE STONDER, AUTOMATIC, THE ALLEGORIST, MILO KORBENSKI, LEON VYNEHALL and lots more.
We have a truly glorious BRIAN ENO and BEATIE WOLFE seven-inch to accompany this month's issue as well. The A-side is 'Play On' from their 'Luminal' album, the hazy yet distinctly impish atmosphere of which is a statement of the pair's chilled intent. "It's a combination of moods, of feelings, that I don't think I've ever come across before," says Eno. Turn the record over for 'Compromised Cowboy', a track previously only available on the Japanese CD version of 'Luminal'. It's another seductive sonic paradox – sometimes foreboding and sometimes sweet. "Inbuilt contradictions," explains Eno. "It's ominous but beautiful. Or something like that."
As with all of our releases, this record is only available to readers of Electronic Sound, so grab your copy right away.
