Ceramic pottery drums have been in use for thousands of years as a source of rhythmic music. But what are the sounds of creating pottery itself? Can the sounds fire from the kiln, the whirling of the wheel, and the rhythmic carving tools shaping the clay be turned into music? What if we combine those sounds with the instrumentation of ceramic percussion into a blend that showcases pottery from start to finish?
Pottery Percussion sets out to do just that. During a trip to India the Splice team captured raw field recordings from The Clay Company, a dynamic ceramic studio in Delhi India, that demonstrates the entire ceramics process from start to finish. This pack also features beautiful rhythmic performances of a variety of ceramic pottery drums by composer and musician Dhurv Goel in a pristine studio environment in LA. Together you get a collection of track-ready loops and one-shots that range from gritty ambiences, to sound designed synths, to crisp percussion tops that are ready to be plopped onto your next beat.
