“When we talk about scales and their interpretation, the harmonic aspects are very important – in this case, perhaps even more important because the diminished scale is octophonic and symmetrical, a simple structure built on the repetition of a tone, semitone cell, or whole step, half step.
This structure, if harmonized, allows you to build many kinds of chords, allows you to have four dominant chords distant from each other's minor thirds, and opens the door to substitutions based on analogies and harmonic interpretations. When the harmonic part is clear, it will become easier to understand how to use the symmetry and patterns that I suggest.”
