Truefire Mimi Fox's Practice Sessions: Jazz Modes & Arpeggios TUTORiAL

In this Modes & Arpeggios edition of Practice Sessions, Mimi Fox will expand your creative and melodic sensibilities across eight powerful interactive practice sessions, each of which focuses on a different scale, mode or arpeggio along with a creative application for developing an improvisation.

”Scales, modes and arpeggios are certainly important tools that jazz guitarists need command of but they’re really just the framework that players use to map their improvisations, over the prevailing chord changes. Learning how to apply creative ideas, melodic devices, and phrasing, over that framework, is the key to crafting fluid, engaging jazz solos and improvisations.”

Mimi will kick off each study with an overview and demonstration of a scale, mode or arpeggio and the creative idea that you’ll be focusing on in the session. She’ll then perform the approach, over a backing track, to give you a feel for how it sits in the rhythm section.

”We’ll work on a variety of approaches for crafting improvisations over Dominant, Minor and Major chords. We’ll apply superimposed arps along with some of my other favorite ways to improvise over a 2-5-1. We’ll cap off each practice session by trading back and forth with the track as I guide you through the core application and some expanded variations.”

What makes this format really special is how you’ll get these approaches firmly under your fingers -- you’ll practice each of the approaches together with Mimi, in a series of interactive practice sessions.

Mimi will roll the track and you’ll trade back and forth as she guides you through the core examples followed by several variations and embellishments. Working regularly with these “practice sessions” is the key to having command of all eight soloing and improvisational approaches.

You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.
