Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, George Benson, Wes Montgomery - all these great guitarists made their mark back in the '60s playing a soulful, groove-infused style that melded jazz, blues, gospel, and R&B.

The smaller organ trio format and relatively simple chord changes allowed for soulful improvised solos, which is why this style of jazz, blues, and boogaloos is as fun to play and is as popular today as it was back in the day. Your master class on this timeless genre of blues and jazz is Sean McGowan's Lead Edition of Jazz, Blues & Boogaloos.

”This course celebrates the classic sound of jazz organ trio by exploring a number of different rhythmic approaches, grooves, and harmonic progressions. We're going to look at building meaningful and musical solos using rhythmic and textural ideas, repetition, theme building, melodic contour, and then building intensity with harmonic ideas and concepts. This approach is more organic than simply analyzing which scales and/or patterns to use. While that has its place, you'll find that exploring ideas in musical terms, will result in more interesting - more three-dimensional - solo improvisations.”

Jazz-up your blues or blues-up your jazz - either way, you'll have a blast playing through 10 jazz, blues and boogaloo soloing performance studies with Sean.

You'll expand your blues vocabulary with a number of different concepts but your primary focus will be learning how to craft meaningful, musical solos without thinking about scales or modes.

You'll work on a variety of blues formats and feels, including boogaloos, straight-ahead swing, blues in three-four, ballads, shuffles, and classic funk grooves.

”We'll also explore dynamics and how your touch goes a long way in creating your tone, as exemplified by the great organ trio guitarists such as Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, and Grant Green. If you haven't already, be sure to check out these three giants of jazz guitar, as well as classic players such as George Benson and Pat Martino (their early organ trio recordings), Ray Crawford, Thornel Schwartz, Quentin Warren, and contemporary players such as Peter Bernstein, Bruce Forman, Jimmy Bruno, Paul Bollenback - and many others!"

Bonus! You'll be soloing over killer backing tracks recorded live in the studio with a pro rhythm section including drums and B3 organ.
